Interesting article. What I wonder is, is New Calvinism a backlash to Emergence Christianity, as Tickle claims, similar to how the Great Awakening was brought about from the Enlightenment?
I would tend to say that both are different reactions to the typical seeker-sensitive American evangelical Christianity. New Calvinism looks from the inside-out, fixing the root problems first (proclamation of the actual gospel, authority of Scripture). Emergence Christianity works from outside-in fixing symptomatic problems first (feeding the poor, social justice).
Of course Emergents would no doubt disagree with me about this.
